My husband and I would like to take our sons to Canyonlands. HOwever, we have a 9 year old with ASD who sometimes likes to run off. Therefore, we removed Bryce and Grand Canyon from our list. Can anyone tell us of any hiking trails in Canyonlands without drop off's where if he ran he would not get hurt?

Canyonlands has lots of ledges and difficult hikes. Not good for kids, especially ones that run off. Arches National Park( which is where Mesa & Delicate Arch are located) also has many hikes with ledges and drop offs. I wouldn't recommend. Go as a couple for this trip - leave the kids at home. There are many other kid friendly vacation spots( the beach, Arizona, etc. You can find cities with zoos, and flatlands much safer and kid friendly.
Knowing how crowded it can be, what are the chances of getting a good photo of sunrise at Mesa Arch, even if you get there early? Wouldn't somebody always be in your picture?

How are the Utah national parks in the winter? We're planning a visit in mid- to late- February and hope the snow won't be a problem. Any advice?

Cedar Breaks National Monument and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon are closed for the season due to snow accumaulation at their higher altitudes. Bryce Canyon's rim also ranges from 8-9000 feet on the Pahsunguint Plateau, but the visitor center remains open year round. The scenic drive and other roads and trails within the park can close at any time during the winter/spring season due to weather conditions, so check the park website. Canyonlands, Arches, Capitol Reef, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Vermillion Cliffs and Glen Canyon NRA remain open year round, although some facilities and trails may be cl osed. Again, check each park's website for current information. Overall, you shouldn't have much of a problem because Utah's canyon country gets a lot less snow than you do in Golden. Remember the blizzard of '83 or the series of spring snowstorms in 2007? I do, and that is why I no longer live in the front range.

Hotels are so expensive in Moab ($200+ per night)... is Monticello a good alternative to stay for .2 nights? We plan to do both Arches and CanyonlandscNational Park during Spring of 2019.
