In 1987, while treating a mutilated Korean/Vietnam veteran, Dr. Scheker created a rudimentary version of a DRUJ implant that combined an ulnar stem, a ball, and a radial plate with a distal socket that allowed pronation and supination.
DISTAL RADIO-ULNAR JOINT PROSTHESIS AND INSTRUMENTATION. The prosthesis consists of a radial plate, an ulnar stem, an Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (UHMWP) ball, a radial plate cover and two radial plate cover screws or one locking cross pin. The radial plate replaces the function of the sigmoid notch.
