Super Mario Bros. wants to ideally do some things in parallel as well, so it has 2 main VRAM buffers, so each of the 2 chips can access 2 different pools of data to minimize potential overlapping. VRAM Buffer 1 deals with sprites, and VRAM Buffer 2 deals with level drawing.

The camera focuses on one player rather than pan out and try and focus on all the characters which makes off-screen deaths frequent, especially if everyone's not on the same experience level.
