Many compounds with formula M 2 X have an antifluorite structure. In these the locations of the anions and cations are reversed relative to fluorite (an anti-structure); the anions occupy the FCC regular sites whereas the cations occupy the tetrahedral interstitial sites.

Structural and magnetic properties of antifluorite-type Li
We present structural analysis based on synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD), and further report on the high-temperature phase stability of Li 5 FeO 4, Li 6 CoO 4 and Li 5.50 Fe 0.50 Co 0.50 O 4 up to 900 °C. These results are further elucidated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations.
