I have heard that crypts have a chemical in them that prevents many fish from eating them and have also heard that crinum calamistratum has such tough leaves that most fish don't eat it. Most other freshwater plants prefer neutral or soft water, but will grow in harder water. Thank you so much! I looked it up and will definitely consider it.
