During my research career I have focused on tropical ecology, conservation genetics, and used cutting-edge next-generation sequencing technology to study modern and museum samples of birds for their conservation management.

After graduating from high school and having survived the ravages of war in Budapest and realizing the difficulties facing life in a small and war torn country, I started to study chemistry upon entering university, being attracted by the wide diversity it offered. Classes at the Technical University of Budapest were relatively small.

In our recent study (Olah et al. 2018, Emu), Indonesia was flagged as the highest priority country for parrot conservation, reflecting many threatening factors: high species diversity (many endemics), large and forest dependent species (like cockatoos), large human population and areas of agriculture (mainly monocultures).
