2017年12月9日 · A2 is air harden steel. After holding 1750°F for 20-30 minutes remove from furnace and air cool. Remove form foil, polish (or surface grind) to remove the oxide and to get clean, shiny metal surface. Temper at 510°F - 530°F for about 2 hours. This will give the metal a nice blue finish and about 56RC hardness.

2006年5月5日 · If what you are tapping is above cold rolled steel in hardness you can use a larger tap drill size to make the hole your'e going to tap. This will give the tap less hole material to try and cut through. A 1/4-28 is a fine pitch and whole lot easier to tap than a 1/4-20! You won't be able to take much out of the hole with a larger drill.

That means a plain carbon steel with .60 carbon in it. I use W1 a lot,which is aprox 1095,can be a little less or more carbon. If I make a letter stamp from it 1/4" square and 2" long,I cannot harden the whole 2".
