How do you protect your blade during construction?
2019年12月8日 · One side dipped in alcohol and wipe once, then the dry side wipe once. I probably use 5-6 a tips per side or until i’m satisfied. After that I carefully apply some thin oil on the blade/ricasso area. Then it’s set aside for the epoxy to cure.

2009年10月23日 · Flats, center line the blade. Always give yourself a set point that is repeatable to return to. I grind the ricasso flat, even up the sides, scribe a center line on top, do the plunges. Grind to about 90%, at 600 belt. Throw on the clay, heat treat and then do final.

2009年11月30日 · Sand the tang/ricasso to 200 grit, then gently sand the ricasso area to 400. Now, you can proceed to the blade bevels without much risk of rounding the ricasso up under the handle. When the entire blade is sanded to 400-800 ( except the tang) and all surfaces are scratch free, the blade is ready for HT. Drill all holes in the tang before the HT.

My problem with the sander is when I start my grind from my ricasso to the tip the grind starts high at ricasso and goes low at tip and I found out that my platen is angled by a hair and I am trying to fix it if anyone has ideas let me know. thanks guys.

2013年1月19日 · Still eyeballing everything. The blade is 1 1/2x8". The 1/4" thick NS guard in still in the preform stage. Haven't quite figured out where I want to go with it. I am leaning toward the opinion that the ricasso is still about 1/4" too long. The black marks are marks-a-lot lines where I would make the changes to shorten the ricasso. What say ye?

2018年11月13日 · I like to have the hidden tang as wide as possible at the ricasso with a small step at the start of the bolster/handle so the strength is not compromised and taper it steeply for 1/2 to 3/4 inch then gradual to the end of the tang.
