Data Shows Rural Disparities in Traffic Deaths | The Daily Yonder
Aug 27, 2024 · The death rate in small metros was 15.6 deaths per 100,000 residents in 2022. Traffic fatalities increased nationwide during the pandemic, from 36,000 deaths in 2019, up to nearly 43,000 in 2021, a 19% increase in deaths. Rural counties added 1,000 more traffic deaths during this time, accounting for an 11% increase in deaths.
