welding with E7018 using AC current
2004年3月9日 · 7018's work best when warmed, it removes the moisture content from the rod coating. Most certifications done with the 7018's require the rod to be 180 degrees before welding. The reason is that the coating on the rods absorbs moisture quickly in fact a 7018 will absorb 80% of it's capability within the first 24 hours.

I picked up some Weld It, 7018 rods yesterday. I then started wondering if these rods would be okay for AC. I went to the filler metals area of this site and the ones have are regular 7018. They also have 7018AC that they say are for "small" 220Volt AC welders. I will be using these with my Lincoln tombstone AC welder.

2008年8月9日 · Due to some early in life brain damage, I need to correct something. I said the rod was 1/8" when in fact it was 3/32". I suspected I was running a bit cool as you have told me. Lincoln says the 1/8" range is 105-150 AC. I made the mistake of looking at the wrong table when setting my amperage. As for 3/32", they suggest 75-120 AC and 70-115 DC+.

I have an old 400 amp Lincoln AC machine and it will pull a standard 7018 fine. However, a 225 won't. There's more to welding than turning up the machine and making the rod burn. I personally have never seen an AC 225 that could pull a DC 7018 and satisfy me with the weld quality. I recommend the 7018AC in the 125-150 amp range as stated above.

2013年1月16日 · I always prefer one of 2 brands of 7018 for dc welding. Esab ok55 7018. I prefer the ok55 over the Atom Arc 7018. Air Liquid Blue Shield 7018. Very nice welding rod but flux is more dificult to remove than the ok55.

2016年10月21日 · Also the Lincoln Stick Electrode Welding Guide (pg 24) says for 7018, “use AC on 3/16” and larger diameters to minimize arc blow for best operating characteristics. DC+ can also be used.” In theory, any 7018 will run on any AC or DC welder with 70 volt OCV. In reality, you just proved that is not correct, even for a skilled welder.

I. Have a 200 amp inverter machine and can weld with the Excalibur 7018 h4r (1/8) rod without any problem but when I try to weld with my 200 amp AC machine, the best it will is sputter and stick. I take the same rod and switch over to the inverter machine and it runs just fine.

2004年10月1日 · Regular 7018 is listed for AC/DC but thats somewhat misleading. They are a DC rod. On certain AC machines they will work but Tombstones arent one of them and AC is primarily used when the currents are over 200 amps to reduce arc blow. I dont think Lincoln says AC right on the rod but Hobart does, it says 7018AC printed on the electrode.
