2016年3月8日 · L C S has it, carbide coated chain. I sold Carlton carbide coated chain back it the 90's, it ran about $26 a chain. I had the crew using it on the landing. Alls depends on the wood your cutting, it will stay sharp 5 to 10 times longer. And it can be sharped in the field with a good file. I used it about 3 yrs, never had one on a grinder.

2013年3月20日 · Couple of challenges with carbide tipped chains: - expensive to buy; - carbide is harder, but also brittle - it breaks and chips and you have to replace the cutters; - carbide tips cannot be shaped as sharp as a steel cutter, so you may need a higher powered saw; - sharpening requires a special diamond grinding wheel.

2010年5月14日 · We ended up making 25-30 cuts through roots, in the sand, and cutting through rocks as well. Then we had to rip the barrel up. The carbide chain was tedious here, so we used it to cut through all the rock/sand encrusted outer layers of the barrel then switched to another saw with a normal chain. It saved a lot of chains and time that way.

2007年7月30日 · Just use an old chain which is about on it's last go around.You can spend a kings ransom on a carbide chain but most people that have used them will say it is a waste of money. Every carbide chain I have ever used, except Bullet, was almost a waste of money. It is the only one I have ever used that was worth the money and more.

2015年7月28日 · I sharpen carbide drills at work , without diamond wheels! The stone wheels we use are very fine gritt , usually bluish-grey in color , I'd have to look what type number they are. Never seen a carbide chain real life , lest tried sharpening one - thus I am not sure whether a stone grinding wheel would hold its grund , but I imagine it could.

2024年9月29日 · I had great success last fall running my Stihl carbide saw chain. I was able to cut up around 50 dead pines and still had solid cutting power. This also included quite a bit of dirt time, probably at least a few minutes collectively of being run in the dirt based on the rotted trees I was cutting up. This is more of a semi chisel/thin kerf chain.

2013年6月23日 · Stihl also makes a couple versions of carbide chain. I have two customers that use it. For $125 retail, a 20" 72 driver 3/8 rapid duro chain will really only stay sharp for the equivalent of 5 to 6 Stihl RS chains, so it's a toss up as to what is better.
