2022年1月25日 · I just wired up a Nest thermostat (the cheaper, non learning one) to my gas unit heater in the garage. I was expecting to have to connect a C wire for the thermostat, which my heater does not have. So I used a piggyback spade to connect off the COM terminal on the board and wired this to the vacant W2 on the terminal strip.

Nest told me all the common wire does is charge the thermostat, but nest also told me that when the unit kicks on to heat / cool, that also charges it.
