WEBShittah tree[1] (Hebrew: שטה) or the plural "shittim" [2] was used in the Tanakh to refer to trees belonging to the genera Vachellia and Faidherbia (both formerly classed in Acacia). Faidherbia albida, Vachellia seyal, Vachellia tortilis, and Vachellia gerrardii can be found growing wild in the Sinai Desert and the Jordan River Valley.

However, in Isaiah 41:19 (KJV) “shittah tree” is actually mentioned. Shittim is the place from which Joshua sent out the spies—a place where there was a forest of Shittahs.

The woof of this tree --perhaps the Acacia seyal is more definitely signified --was extensively employed in the construction of the tabernacle. See Exod 25,26,36,37,38.
