So, what are all the Vox clones/inspired amps out there right now?
Sep 17, 2009 · The Classic 30 is NOT like a Vox. The only reason people claim or confuse C30s for Vox is the EL84 power tubes, but the circuits are not similar. For what its worth, Classic 30's are one of my favorite amps though. As far as the Class A nonsense amp companies have been spewing to sell amps - Matchless and most Z's are NOT Class A either.

Mar 16, 2024 · Just more Vox re-issues is all - they've already got several alleged hand-wired models out The only unique/special thing about Vox has been the chime/jangle tones the AC 15 and 30 will deliver with an alnico speaker. If the amp don't have an alnico speaker and tubes it won't produce that either.

Dec 24, 2010 · I picked this gem up about 3 months ago. It is a 30 watt valve amp by VOX and I think made in Korea with a British 10 speaker. Right off the bat I was pretty impressed with it. Has essentially 3 channels, a clean, od1 and od2. Seperate bass and treble for each and small spring reverb that for all intents and purposes works as it should.
Which Gibson amp circuit is the basis for the Vox AC 30?

The design of the Vox Top Boost circuit appears to have been lifted, part for part, from the 1950's era Gibson GA-70 amplifier (see photo at right).

Oct 25, 2023 · Of those 3, I'd pick the AC10, but as mentioned above the AC15 is more versatile, trem, verb, top boost & normal channels and the all-important cut control. Can't imagine a Vox-style amp without the cut knob. And they seem to run cheap around my neighborhood. If it was just going to sit in the music room, the big brother is the way to go.

Feb 24, 2012 · When the British bands were coming across the pond the cost to bring those amps with them was excessive , VOX commissioned or maybe even sold an interest to Thomas Organ, they built the solid state amps state side. These amps, considering the times..mid to late 60's, "ROCKED THE PLANET" .

Oct 9, 2016 · EL84 for ppl who don't like Vox: Dr Z Maz 38 Matchless C30 THey are way more assertive, sweeter mids, can get Fendery when needed - Marshally too - the highs are compressed & not just awkward like on a Vox. On a smaller budget; an amp that has been getting my praise lately, is the Mesa Mark V:25 (lunchbox amp) = just gorgeous & makes LOTS of sense

Oct 21, 2018 · The EF-86 vibrato/tremolo channel is very touch sensitive and musical, the reason Dick Denny designed it into all his early Vox amplifiers. It was removed from the AC30 because the EF-86 became microphonic, so the circuit changed and top boost copied from Gibson GA-77 (including the mistake in that circuit) was added.
